Jess Locke picked up a guitar around the age of 12 and, after a brief lesson with her father, could play and sing ‘Bad Moon Rising’. Covers of Dylan, Jewel and Rage Against The machine followed and eventually Jess began composing tunes of her own. One of the earlier numbers was about ant liberation and others were some kind of attempt at acoustic grunge. While most songs from this period won’t make it onto Jess’s current set lists, they are evidence of her desire for originality and experimentation in all styles of music. After many, many notebooks and years of throwing songs away, Jess now has a diverse and ever expanding catalogue of songs.
Jess has already made an impression on the Sydney, Newcastle and Central Coast music scenes, headlining gigs and playing at venues such as The Hopetoun, the Sandringham and the Excelsior Hotel as well as Lizotte’s Restaurant and Kantara House on the Central Coast and Newcastle University.
Jess has performed live with a band on local ABC and community radio and had gigs reviewed in the local paper. Having already gained airplay on triple j radio with her home made demos, Jess is currently at work on her debut release.
