Primarily concerned with the health and survival of the environment, Deep Ecology is founded on the belief that people can mature enough to stop their uncaring or destructive behaviour towards the Earth.

Deep ecologists call this maturation process the cultivation of ecological consciousness. Besides becoming more aware of the existence of nature, cultivating ecological consciousness also stands for “a process of learning to appreciate silence and solitude and rediscovering how to listen.”

Deep Ecology requires from people to become more receptive, trusting in the flow of life, and working towards non-exploitative science and technology.
